Why Understanding Your Data Matters

Have you ever sat through a presentation where someone was sharing charts and numbers, but none of it really made sense? It probably felt confusing, maybe even boring. I’ve been
there—not just in the audience, but also as the person presenting. Once, I had to give a quick brief on our customer engagement data. I wasn’t fully informed and didn’t take the time to really
understand what I was talking about. The result? I stumbled, guessed, and walked away feeling like I didn’t give my best. And honestly, the team didn’t walk away with much value either.
Looking back, I realized that knowing your numbers isn’t just about looking smart—it’s about making smarter decisions for your brand. Especially in the beauty and lifestyle world, where we
track everything from website traffic to sales conversions, we need to break the data down and understand what it’s actually telling us before throwing it all into one big confusing chart.
This week’s lesson? Take the time to understand your own data before presenting it, whether it’s to a team, a client, or even just to yourself. Grouping everything together without context makes
it hard for others (and you!) to connect the dots. Keep it simple, tell a story with your data, and speak from a place of confidence. Whether it’s reviewing a new product, giving fresh ideas about
a campaign, always understanding your data and making the right research will get you very far. Because at the end of the day, knowing your numbers means knowing your business, and that’s
always in style.
